Welcome to London Gait Analysis
London Gait Analysis specialises in the measurement of lower limb movement with particular emphasis on the knee. The data is collected using a series of sensors attached at various points on the lower limb. These record movement in 3 dimensions while the subject is walking, going up and down stairs or while running.
This is currently one of the most advanced systems of lower limb gait analysis for knee movement and is entirely portable being equally useful on the sports field as in the clinic. The measurements obtained are very comparable with the large university based gait laboratories.
A permanent record of the data is maintained so that changes in performance can be monitored during the recovery from injury and before and after interventions such as physiotherapy, injections, surgery or changes in footwear.
The system is currently being used to support the treatment of knee problems. It has proved itself to be extremely valuable for therapists including orthopaedic surgeons, sports medicine physicians, and physiotherapists to support accurate diagnosis and degree of severity. It is of particular value in following and assessing the outcome of treatment. When undertaken before and after treatment, it provides objective evidence of progress.
Our system enables a digital gait analysis to be completed in just a few minutes. The data obtained during this non-invasive procedure allows us to capture and show the patterns of a range of key movements in 3D format.
London Gait Analysis is based at London Knee Clinic, St Olaf House, London Bridge Hospital.Within our specialised unit we can quickly provide a comprehensive suite of information about the way you are moving.
Our system is also used by professional sportspeople to monitor and track sports injuries, as well as being used as a tool to improve performance. Our entirely portable digital gait analysis system can be used on site at your track or sports arena on request.
A Precise Numerical Measurement
The numerical data gathered is also displayed as a series of easy to understand graphs showing the range and pattern of movement. This detailed information can provide an invaluable tool to aid the diagnosis and treatment of specific knee, hip and spinal conditions.
This comprehensive analysis examines the two main phases of gait:
Stance phase – analysis of how the leg moves during the weight bearing part of the gait cycle, i.e. when the foot is on the ground.
Swing phase – what happens to the movements of the leg as you lift your foot off the ground to prepare for the next step.
Our digital gait analysis system can be used across all age ranges and all levels of fitness. Tests are conducted without the use of treadmills or purpose built environments. This ensures that the data we produce reflects natural, everyday movement and therefore delivers an authentic and reliable gait analysis.
The system has been fully validated and has been used to evaluate complainants seeking compensation through the courts in personal injury cases. Additionally, it serves as an accurate tool to establish genuine cases from individuals that may be malingering.
